Why Swim With Bill?

Swim With Bill utilizes two progressions for teaching your child to swim. Our school age program, SwimAmerica, was created by the American Swim Coaches Assn. incorporating best practices to ensure students learn quickly and efficiently.

Our preschool program, created by our own staff, simplifies the progressions of our school age program so our youngest students can progress quickly by taking smaller steps (or strokes so to speak).

Both programs utilize a progression where the students focus on 2-3 skills at a time. Once those skills are learned, students advance to the next level right away so they are not spending time learning skills already passed.

Supervisors: We always have a supervisor on deck to ensure the classes are organized. Our supervisors will also assist our instructors with other techniques when a student is not understanding a particular skill.

Instructors: Our instructors complete weeks of training to ensure our students will be taught by instructors who are knowledgeable of the skills, how to work with and handle students, etc.

Which class should I enroll my child?

Our classes (Beginner, Intermediate & Advanced) are based on specific skill sets.

Our Beginner classes will teach students how to put their faces in the water, fully submerge blowing bubbles (10x). Students will then learn to float and glide in the water. The third step is learning to move through the water by kicking (15') on their front and back. Finally, students will learn to swim freestyle.

Our Intermediate classes will focus on swimming freestyle, backstroke and treading water for a minute. With each level students will build endurance by swimming farther. Building endurance is critical to preventing drowning.

Our Advanced classes will teach students the four competitive strokes and continue increase endurance giving your child the ability to be safe in most swimming conditions.

Why learn competitive swim strokes?

We understand that most of our students will not join our swim team. Wowever, the competitive swimming strokes are the most efficient and effective ways to move through the water. Taught properly, students will learn multiple ways to move in the water using the least amount of energy.

How many lessons will my child need to learn to swim?

Each child learns at a different rate. The two biggest factors are comfort in the water and age.

  1. Comfort in the water: Children who are fearful in the water will take time building confidence in the water. We will work closely with your child to build trust with their instructor and then being comfortable in the water.
  2. Age: Younger children will typically take longer to learn a skill than older children. Because of this, we use age appropriate language when describing various techniques. When teaching youngsters to streamline, we find telling them to be tall or straight as a pencil rather than "hyperextend" like my swim coach taught me :)

I've registered for swim lessons, is there anything else I need to know?

Where are the lessons?

We are located at 1975 Melissa Lane in Aurora. Click on the location tab above for map and directions.

What should I bring?

A swim suit and a towel. Some students wear goggles. We have some spare goggles that students can borrow until you find the right ones for you.

Swim Diapers: If you child is not fully potty trained, please be sure you child is wearing a waterproof swim diaper prior to getting in the pool.

My child is not progressing as quickly as I thought. What should I do?

Please speak to the supervisor. Our supervisor can take a closer look and discuss some different ideas to get your child back on track.

There is usually a skill or two that students will struggle with. It may be side breathing in freestyle or learning proper foot position when treading water. Other students are not comfortable on their back in the water. Whatever it is, we will continue to work with each student to get them through any difficult skills.

Do you offer makeup classes?

We do not offer make up classes. The main reason is that moving a swimmer into another class will take away time from other students already enrolled.

We also charge a flat rate for monthly lessons. Most months, we offer four lessons per month. However, due to the calendar, there will be months that five classes will be offered. These classes are free and help in the case where you may have missed another class.

Do I need to notify Swim With Bill if my child will miss a class

We take attendance every day. You do not need to let us know if you have a conflict or an illness. We will look forward to seeing you next week.

Can I change class days?

You may switch classes if your schedule changes. Go to your registration page and look for open classes that align with your schedule. If you have any questions, fill out the form on our homepage and we will get back to you quickly.
